1997-Present   Speech-Language Pathologist, Jessamine County Schools, Nicholasville, Kentucky

 

Responsibilities:  Implementation of speech-language therapy services for 45+/- elementary students with a variety of communication disorders and developmental disabilities; screening and evaluation of students, meeting with parents, consulting with relevant support staff and teachers, and completing relevant reports and treatment plans in accordance with state and federal regulations.  Daily programming of speech and language therapy using a variety of literature, musical, sign language, art and game activity-based units based upon Kentucky Program of Studies and core content documents.  Developed phonological awareness intervention programs, collaborative therapy programs, served as resource mentor for teacher interns, supervise graduate students from Eastern Kentucky University and University of Kentucky.

Responsibilities:  Development and instruction of graduate students in the area of communication disorders.  Courses taught:  Augmentative and Alternative Communication Systems (CDS 720) ,  Communication Disorders In Special Populations (formerly SED 722) and Disorders of Articulation (CDS 373).   Other responsibilities include:  using computer technology to enhance course content, provide exposure to various communication technologies in the field, and integrating technology during course lecture and class activities.

Provision of contract services to various school districts in need of assistive technology and/or augmentative communication systems.  Provide districts with suggestions, resources and written reports in conjunction with state and federal guidelines.  Provision of continuing education opportunities for school-based speech-language pathologists in Kentucky and Indiana, which are approved by the state’s board of speech-language pathology and Audiology.  A variety of topics are explored through seminars including:  provision of  Collaborative therapy services, implementation of holistic speech and language therapy services  In the schools, discussion roundtables and development of best professional practices for school-based speech services.  Creation and operation of  a website resource for school-based speech-language pathologists, www.speechfriends.com, which provides information,  seminar offerings  and consultative service descriptions online.
